Effective waste management is essential for building cleaner and more sustainable cities. In Tiruchirappalli, Key Foundation has been working closely with the City Corporation to strengthen Micro Compost Centres (MCCs), which play a crucial role in processing organic waste locally.

These centres help reduce the burden on landfills while promoting environmentally responsible waste disposal. To enhance their efficiency, Key Foundation has deployed trained staff and developed Model MCCs that demonstrate best practices in waste segregation, composting, and operational management.

The initiative focuses on improving workflows, ensuring proper waste handling, and maintaining hygiene and safety standards within the centres. These improvements not only increase efficiency but also result in better-quality compost output.

A significant part of this effort is capacity building. Sanitation workers and MCC staff receive hands-on training in scientific composting methods and safe waste handling practices. This not only enhances their skills but also improves their working conditions and dignity.

By creating replicable models, Key Foundation is contributing to a scalable waste management system. More importantly, it promotes a circular economy—where waste is transformed into valuable resources. This initiative is a step forward in building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient city.
