Empowering Women Through Self-Help Groups: A Key Foundation Initiative
GENDER

The Self-Help Group (SHG) Initiative by Key Foundation has empowered women by fostering financial independence and entrepreneurship. By providing savings opportunities, low-interest loans, and training in financial literacy and leadership, the initiative enables sustainable growth. Beyond economics, SHGs offer social support, empowering women to drive change in their communities.
The Key Foundation has been a steadfast advocate for women's empowerment, facilitating the formation of over 170 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), which have positively impacted the lives of more than 2,365 women. These SHGs serve as a platform for women to unite, share resources, and collaboratively overcome challenges related to financial independence, social equality, and personal growth. By equipping women with the tools they need to succeed, the initiative is transforming communities, one group at a time.
At the core of the SHG initiative is financial inclusion. Members of SHGs are encouraged to pool savings, which not only fosters a culture of thrift but also creates a fund for internal lending. This enables women to access low-interest loans without the need for collateral, a privilege that many would not otherwise have. These funds have been instrumental in helping women start small businesses, such as tailoring, food production, and retail shops, enabling them to generate sustainable incomes and achieve financial independence.
The Key Foundation goes beyond financial support by offering comprehensive training programs to SHG members. These sessions cover diverse topics, including entrepreneurial development, financial literacy, leadership, and vocational skills. Women are empowered with knowledge about how to manage their finances, scale their businesses, and advocate for their rights. Furthermore, the foundation provides mentorship and links SHGs with banks, ensuring their efforts are sustainable and scalable.

In addition to economic empowerment, SHGs play a critical role in fostering social and emotional support. Women from different backgrounds come together, forming a strong network of solidarity and mutual aid. Through regular meetings and collaborative activities, members address issues such as domestic violence, access to education for their children, and health concerns. This holistic approach ensures that SHGs are not just financial tools but also vehicles for comprehensive social development.
The success of this initiative is evident in the stories of countless women who have transformed their lives through SHGs. From becoming first-time entrepreneurs to taking on leadership roles in their communities, these women are breaking barriers and setting examples for future generations. The Key Foundation’s SHG initiative is a testament to the power of collective action in driving change and empowering women to create a brighter, more equitable future for themselves and their families.
