Breaking the Silence: Empowerment Through Menstrual Awareness
HEALTH

The Menstrual Awareness initiative educates women and girls on menstrual hygiene, addresses myths, facilitates informed choice and promotes eco-friendly solutions. It fosters open dialogue and empowers communities to embrace menstruation and menopause as natural and manageable aspects of life
Menstrual health and hygiene remain a taboo topic in many communities, creating barriers for adolescent girls and women to access information and resources. The Key Foundation’s Menstrual Awareness Campaign aims to dismantle these barriers by spreading awareness and fostering open discussions about menstrual hygiene management (MHM). The campaign focuses on educating women and girls in schools, colleges, low-income settlements, and workplaces, ensuring they are informed and confident about their menstrual health choices.
One of the key highlights of the campaign was addressing the plethora of questions and doubts participants had. Adolescent girls voiced concerns and myths they had about menstruation, from understanding the science behind periods to managing discomfort and hygiene. Similarly, women had numerous doubts about menopause—an often overlooked and stigmatized stage of life. The campaign served as a safe and inclusive platform where such questions could be answered openly, providing clarity and dispelling misconceptions that often arise due to lack of education and dialogue.

Another significant focus of the campaign was the environmental impact of menstrual waste disposal. Participants were educated on eco-friendly options such as biodegradable pads and menstrual cups, encouraging informed choices that benefit both personal health and the environment. These sessions not only empowered women and girls with sustainable solutions but also reinforced the importance of taking ownership of their health and making choices that positively impact the community and planet.
Through its targeted outreach and community-driven approach, the Menstrual Awareness Campaign has begun to break the silence around these vital issues. It inspires a much-needed cultural shift, ensuring that women and girls can embrace menstruation and menopause as natural and manageable aspects of life. By addressing their concerns and fostering confidence, this initiative paves the way for a healthier, more informed, and empowered future.
